Former Manchester City and Chelsea winger Wright-Phillips stresses how difficult it can be to perform through racism.

Recently, City’s Raheem Sterling and Juventus striker Moise Kean defied abuse by scoring and celebrating in front of their abusers – and Sterling has become a leading voice in the fight against racism.

Another prominent figure is Arsenal legend and Match of the Day pundit Wright, and Wright-Phillips explained how his father helped him cope with abuse.

â€Å“It was a big benefit to have my dad to knock certain things on the head that may have touched a very bad nerve and I could’ve reacted differently,” he told talkSPORT.

â€Å“He guided me and my brother [Bradley Wright-Phillips] in the right direction and we’ve learned to cope with it.

â€Å“It’s just not good to have in the game, period. It’s just wrong.”

The 37-year-old is pleased that players like Sterling and Rose are beginning to speak out about racism and suggests wholesale bans could help to eradicate the problem.

He added: â€Å“It’s amazing that they’re actually talking out about it because it’s hard.

â€Å“As players on the pitch, it’s even harder to deal with a play a good game, like Sterling for example.

â€Å“He had to deal with that but came out on top. He’s managed to juggle it but some people might not be able to manage it.

â€Å“I just think it’s bad, there are kids in the stadium, they’re teaching their kids that racism is alright.

â€Å“If I was the FA or UEFA, I would just ban the fans completely until it’s policed properly.”
