Edin Dzeko ‘hung Stephan El Shaarawy from hanger on wall’ during half-time row in Roma’s dressing room

Roma suffered a shock defeat at relegation battling SPAL in their last match before the international break, and various reports claimed a row broke out between the club’s players during the half-time interval.

Stephan El Shaarawy and Edin Dzeko, the forwards, are believed to have had a furious row in the Roma dressing room as the latter was angered by El Shaarawy’s refusal to pass him the ball throughout the first half.

Roma went into the break 1-0 down, with Mohamed Fares firing the 15th placed club into the lead just after the 20 minute mark.

Roma have not commented on the alleged row, and a new report appears to have revealed what occurred during the rumoured half-time brawl.

Bosnia media outlet sportsport.ba say things were so heated Dzeko actually got hold of El Shaarawy and ‘hung him by a hanger on the wall’ of the dressing room.

Earlier reports suggested the row never descended into any physical action from either player involved, though Dzeko is said to have been trying to get to his team-mate only to be restrained by Roma players Federico Fazio and Robin Olsen.

Claudio Ranieri, the Roma manager, was reportedly shocked by the dressing room scenes, though he managed to calm Dzeko and El Shaarawy down before the second half got under way.

However, El Shaarawy did not return to the pitch for the second period, with Ranieri keeping Dzeko on instead – despite his wishes to keep playing both forwards.

Roma ended up losing, with Andrea Petagna netting SPAL’s winner after Diego Perotti equalised from the penalty spot.

The Giallorossi, who were knocked out the Champions League by Porto earlier this month, now trail Serie A’s top four by four points.
