Moise Kean: Juventus captain Giorgio Chiellini defends teenager striker who suffered racist abuse

Juventus captain Giorgio Chiellini has defended Moise Kean after the forward suffered racist abuse from fans during their match at Cagliari.

The teenager held his arms out after scoring Juve̢۪s second as they won 2-0 in their Serie A match on Tuesday.

The celebration appeared to be in reaction to the chants and he was then subjected to further abuse.

Teammate Leonardo Bonucci said Kean had to take some of the blame and it was ̢۪50-50̢۪ while manager Massimiliano Allegri said he should not have celebrated in that way.

Captain Chiellini backed the 19-year-old in a post-match interview, though.

â€Å“He is a very positive figure and certainly did not deserve the insults received,” Chiellini told Juventus TV.

â€Å“Moise is a legacy of Italian football, a golden boy, who is doing his best and should not appear for what he is not.

“From the field there isn’t a good account of what happened, but I have reviewed the images and Moise did nothing.

â€Å“After tonight, we must think of him as Zaniolo, Chiesa, Barella… as a positive figure of Italian football, because he deserves it.

â€Å“The only thing he did wrong today was the simulation, that he surely won’t repeat, but he’s here to learn. He’s a very positive figure and he certainly didn’t deserve the insults he received.”

Kean̢۪s Juventus teammate Blaise Matuidi made complaints to the referee and threatened to walk off.

The young striker posted a picture of his celebration on Instagram following the match with the caption: â€Å“The best way to respond to racism #notoracism.”

Bonucci̢۪s suggestion that Kean was partly to blame for the racist abuse has been met with condemnation in the football community.

Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling said the comments by the Juventus defender were laughable.

Bonucci later posted a picture of himself and Kean saying: â€Å“Regardless of everything, in any case… NO TO RACISM.”
