Tottenham Hotspur team news: How Spurs could line-up against Ajax in their Champions League semi-final second leg

If Tottenham Hotspur have it all to do in the Champions League semi-final second leg tie with Ajax  having lost 1-0 in north London last week.

Thankfully, things are beginning to look a little more positive for Spurs with Erik Lamela and Serge Aurier back in contention for the match after injuries and Heung-Min Son returning after suspension.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino gives instructions to Dele Alli in the first leg against Ajax.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino is still without Harry Winks, Harry Kane and the ineligible Vincent Janssen, while Davinson Sanchez has joined the list of absentees with a thigh problem.

Liverpool’s incredible comeback victory over Barcelona will have lifted Spurs’ spirits too and hopefully given them the belief anything is possible in a game of football.

But how will Pochettino set up his team given they struggled so much in the first-half against Ajax in the first leg. The fact Sissoko is likely to play from the start should help but a tactical switch could also occur.

So, how will Tottenham line-up? We’ve predicted their XI below.

Is this the XI Pochettino will play against Ajax?

Having played a back-five to start in the first leg, Spurs should now revert to a back-four handing them an extra man in midfield to stymie the talented Ajax player who ran rings around them early on last Tuesday.

Heung-Min Son will replace Fernando Llorente and offer a twin threat with Lucas Moura, pinning the Dutch outfits backline into a deeper position.

Sissoko alongside Victor Wanyama should help avoid the gaping holes in front of the defence which allowed Erik ten Haag’s side to score their opening goal in the tie, while it will allow Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen to play in freer roles, while covering Frenkie de Jong and any passing options when Spurs don’t have the ball.

Liverpool will play either Ajax or Tottenham in the Champions League final. Tune into talkSPORT this evening to hear full commentary of their semi-final second leg clash, live from Amsterdam!
