Real Madrid transfer news: The players who could leave, including Gareth Bale and Luka Modric as Zinedine Zidane plans overhaul

Real Madrid have had a nightmare season to say the least.

Los Blancos sit in third place in LaLiga, 15 points behind bitter rivals Barcelona, and Zinedine Zidane, who was reappointed as manager of the club in March, has so far failed to inspire a turnaround in form.

Zidane is set to splash the cash in the summer

The Spanish giants are set to have a hugely busy summer in the transfer market with a vast budget set to be splashed on talent from across the continent.

Zidane has been promised an overhaul of his current crop of players and has already signed Porto defender Eder Militao.

Big names such as Eden Hazard, Christian Eriksen and Paul Pogba have been strongly linked with the club for several months.

But in order to facilitate the overhaul, Zidane has to get rid of some of his current stars.

So who could be out of the Bernebeu door? talkSPORT.com has identified some potential high-profile departures from the club…

Luka Modric

Modric, 22, could be shown the Bernebeu door in the summer

Zidane is reportedly having doubts over Luka Modric’s future at the club.

The Ballon d’Or winner, 33, has struggled for form of late and the Frenchman is wary he has now peaked and may not be useful in his squad next season.

Real Madrid are hoping to sign at least one central midfielder in the summer, with Pogba and Eriksen potentially on their way to the club, and Modric’s place in the team will be in a precarious position should they land one of their targets.

The Croat came close to leaving the Bernabeu outfit for Inter in the summer but he eventually opted to stay in the Spanish capital.

However, he was left out of the starting line-up in the 3-2 victory against Villarreal on the weekend, fuelling more speculation over his future.

Gareth Bale

Speculation has been rife on Bale’s future at Real

Speculation has been rife on Bale’s future at Real

Talk of Gareth Bale’s Real Madrid future has been rife following the return of Zidane as manager, with the Frenchman often preferring to use Isco in his line-up in his first stint in charge.

Bale, 29, has struggled to completely win over the Los Blancos support in his six-year stint with Real Madrid, despite playing in an instrumental role in four Champions League triumphs and a LaLiga title.

He has been booed off at the Bernabeu by his own supporters on numerous occasions this season, while former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon launched a scathing attack on him, saying he has ‘not lived up to expectations’ since his £85million arrival from Tottenham.

On the weekend, Bale was not even named as a substitute for the Villarreal clash, with Zidane saying the media can make their own assumptions about his absence.

Keylor Navas

Navas will be offered to English clubs this summer

6

Navas will be offered to English clubs this summer

Another player who could be on their way out of Real Madrid this summer is Costa Rica shot-stopper Keylor Navas.

The Telegraph report that Real are willing to offer Navas to Manchester United as part of the Pogba deal or as a separate signing, despite the goalkeeper emerging as Zidane’s first choice between the sticks since his return.

Following a difficult start to life in the Spanish capital, Thibaut Courtois is expected to be reinstated as the no.1 at the club next season and Real are prepared to offer Navas to an English club.

However, with Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Man City all looking secure in the goalkeeper department, a move to PSG may be on the cards if Gianluigi Buffon finally calls time on his career.

Bayern have the option to sign Rodriguez permanently

Colombia playmaker James Rodriguez is another player whose future at Real Madrid is uncertain.

The 27-year-old has been on loan at Bayern Munich for two seasons and the Bavarian club have the option of activating a £27m release clause to bring him to the club permanently.

Should Bayern opt against signing him, Real are reportedly set to find another buyer and would be hopeful of banking more than £27m for his services.

According to Marca, Chelsea and Manchester United have both shown interest in bringing him to the Premier League.

Isco has struggled for form this season, with three goals in 25 matches

Isco was a firm favourite of Zidane’s in his first spell at the helm but so far he has not proven that he deserves to be in his starting line-up.

The Spaniard undoubtedly has talent in abundance but he has had a poor season this term, scoring just three goals in 25 league matches.

In January, Isco insisted he was keen to stay at the Bernabeu when playing under Santiago Solari, however with Juventus reportedly keen on his signature he may look for a move away to reignite his career.

The Mail report that Isco is on Juve’s transfer shortlist this summer, with Man United’s Paul Pogba, Ajax starlet Matthijs de Ligt and Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele joining him as the targets.

Narrow victory for sloppy Lions

FRIENDLY

Singapore 4
Solomon Islands 3
If the main aim of Singapore's international friendly against Solomon Islands last night was to ensure their new coach Tatsuma Yoshida started his tenure with a win, the Lions got the job done.
Barely, though, with a 4-3 win at the National Stadium.
But, if the larger objective was to get the Lions to play possession-based attacking football, Yoshida knows he has a lot of work to do after celebrating his 45th birthday today, as he rated the Lions' performance a "six or seven out of 10".
To be fair, the Japanese tactician was appointed only on May 30 and had just four training sessions.
He said: "It is a good result and a positive start. Our boys played a little nervously, made some mistakes, and we have to improve on some things, but they showed good attitude.

NERVY START
Our boys played a little nervously, made some mistakes, and we have to improve on some things, but they showed good attitude... I'm used to seeing players who train well but become nervous in games.
TATSUMA YOSHIDA, national coach, after his first game in charge of Singapore.

"We couldn't control the play and couldn't stop the opponents' attack in midfield, and we panicked a little. We didn't interchange well and we need to learn to hold our defence first.
"I'm used to seeing players who train well but become nervous in games. These are things we cannot improve on in one or two days but I trust my players."
Singapore, who started off with a 4-1-4-1 formation, got off to a flyer in front of around 1,500 fans when Faris Ramli headed home Shahdan Sulaiman's cross in the fourth minute.
But Singapore strangely sat back after the bright start, as both sides lacked ideas and urgency.
The Solomon Islands looked the likelier team to score towards the end of the half as Izwan Mahbud had to be alert to thwart Joses Nawo twice in two minutes.
The Lions failed to heed the warning signs and were made to pay just three minutes after the restart when Feni Gagame grabbed the equaliser.
Singapore's sloppiness in possession allowed the visitors to score in the 58th and 75th minutes, through Andrew Abba and Benjamin Totori respectively.
But Yoshida's men fought back each time they went behind, equalising twice through Shahdan Sulaiman's free kick in the 68th minute, and Quak's finish off substitute Khairul Amri's pass in the 77th minute.
Singapore captain Hariss Harun, whose sloppy back pass in the 78th minute resulted in Izwan being stretchered off after clashing into Nawo, made amends in the 86th minute by slotting home the winner from point-blank range after Solomon Islands goalkeeper Philip Mango dropped Quak's corner kick.
While the 28-year-old, with 10 international goals, was pleased with how the team fought back, Hariss called for a better showing against Myanmar on Tuesday.
He said: "It is important we got the win. We did it the hard way, which is not ideal. We have to work on controlling the game better. I think it was a case of being comfortable and overconfident after the early goal and we were punished.
"The boys enjoy playing such attacking football but we need to remember our defensive responsibilities too, so tonight was a good lesson we have to learn from."
Solomon Islands coach Wim Rijsbergen said: "We gave a couple of goals away and allowed Singapore back into the game. We have guys who come from very low standards and we have to learn in international football, every mistake can lead to a goal."

Wilfried Zaha: Crystal Palace prepared to let star man leave for whopping £80m this summer

Crystal Palace have slapped an £80million price tag on Wilfried Zaha, according to reports.

The Mail on Sunday claim that the Eagles are prepared to let the wantaway forward leave this summer, but only for the right price.

Crystal Palace are prepared to sell Wilfried Zaha for £80m this summer

Crystal Palace are prepared to sell Wilfried Zaha for £80m this summer

Zaha recently revealed he wants to leave Selhurst Park in order to realise his ambition of playing Champions League football.

And the former Manchester United man is likely to get his wish granted this summer, with a host of Europe’s top clubs chasing his signature.

Arsenal have shown a long-standing interest in the 26-year-old, with club representatives watching him on numerous occasions.

Borussia Dortmund and Inter Milan have also expressed an interest in Zaha, while Tottenham are unlikely to afford a deal to sign the tricky playmaker.

DEFEATS:22/11

GOALS PER GAME: 1.3/0.5

WIN PERCENTAGE: 34/15

The ongoing situation with Zaha is likely to have an impact on team-mate Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s future.

The Palace right back, 21, is regarded as one of the best young talents in the world and is attracting interest from the Premier League’s elite.

There is, however, a huge reluctance at Selhurst Park to let both Zaha and Wan-Bissaka leave in the same summer, with club hierarchy fully aware of the backlash they’d receive from supporters.

Only a huge offer for both Wan-Bissaka and Zaha will tempt the board into selling them both in the same window.

Palace fended off interest for Zaha last summer, with the club persuading him to sign a new five-year deal worth £130,000 a week – thus making him the highest earner at the club.

But in light of Zaha’s recent comments in the media, it seems a matter of when, not if, the attacker departs the Premier League outfit.

Real Madrid: Has Zinedine Zidane found his new striker? Raul de Tomas could be the man to replace some of Cristiano Ronaldo’s goals

Real Madrid̢۪s second highest league goalscorer this season isn̢۪t even at the club.

It’s time to start paying attention to Raúl de Tomás, LaLiga’s most exciting young striker.

Raul De Tomas in action against Barcelona

3

Raul De Tomas in action against Barcelona

In a campaign where Real Madrid have struggled to replace the around 50 strikes a season scored by Cristiano Ronaldo, one of the biggest goal threats on the club’s books isn’t even playing at the Bernabéu.

There was something fitting at the weekend when De Tomás scored his 13th league goal of the season, doing so against Valencia and sending Rayo Vallecano on their way to an unlikely first victory in nine. Just three days earlier, his parent club Real Madrid had been comprehensively bettered at the Mestalla. Yet there was RDT, as he likes to be known, playing a decisive part in ending Los Che’s historic 17 game unbeaten run.

Did he feel particularly motivated to avenge the club that nurtured him through their academy from the age of seven? Perhaps, but RDT already had plenty of motivation regardless. Rayo are in a dire situation and, to be brutally honest, are a pretty dire team.

Their slim hopes of LaLiga survival rest almost solely on the shoulders of their exceptionally talented centre-forward, who has scored 38 percent of the Madrid minnows̢۪ league goals in 2018/19. He has been directly involved in 41 percent, if the assist picked up earlier this month against Eibar is taken into account.

In a world where Lionel Messi is on course to near the 40 goal mark in LaLiga, 13 may not sound like a lot, but at a team as poor as Rayo it really is.

More often than not RDT is asked to create his own goals, provided with little service of quality or consistency, and that necessity to invent is reflected in the variety of his strikes: six with his right, five with his left, one with his head, one from a direct free-kick.

Many of the goals have been great goals, too. There was the thumping, curling left-footed strike from outside the area that got the better of Espanyol. Or the beautifully struck volley that got the better of Getafe, one of the toughest defences in Spain. There have also been plenty of poachers’ goals, the forward apt at sneakily drifting away from his marker to find just enough space and tap home in the area. At 24, he now looks the finished product, a complete elite footballer who can hurt teams in any number of ways.

RDT battles for aerial supremacy.

3

RDT battles for aerial supremacy.

Currently the joint second highest scoring Spaniard in LaLiga behind Iago Aspas, not a single one of the Rayo man̢۪s strikes have come from the spot, and if penalties were removed from the equation he would stand unchallenged above his compatriots in that chart. He̢۪s even said to be on the radar of Spain coach Luis Enrique: though a call-up hasn̢۪t materialised yet, the methodical Asturian will certainly be paying attention.

None of this has gone unnoticed at Madrid. Stories have started to gather pace suggesting that Zinedine Zidane – who coached RDT at Castilla – wants him back as part of his squad for next season. ROn paper it looks like a no-brainer: if a striker can score 13 goals virtually out of nothing for Rayo, imagine what he could do with world class service for Los Blancos. Top scorer Karim Benzema is 31 and in desperate need of some quality back-up, so from a financial perspective it also makes perfect sense to provide that at the cost of zero, in a summer where there is likely to be a big outlay to strengthen other positions.

Will Zidane call on De Tomas next season?

3

Will Zidane call on De Tomas next season?

But the player will have his say, and RDT is not a yes man. The academy product already had the chance to return to Madrid last summer, then-coach Julen Lopetegui saying he was part of his plans as a squad player. But realising minutes would be scarce, the forward instead insisted on being loaned out to Rayo where he would get regular football.

A bold move, but one that paid off, and shows the mentality of a true competitor. â€Å“It was my decision. I’m a winner, not conformist. I’ve grown by playing, not by sitting in the stands, that’s why I decided to leave,” he explained to Onda Cero.

Zidane has a decision to make in the summer: back RDT properly, or risk his talent being exploited elsewhere. Because if the reassurances De Tomás is looking for can’t be provided at the Bernabéu, he will surely seek them somewhere else. Somewhere much bigger than Vallecas.

Arsenal news: How Gunners could line-up next season including Djene Dakonam and Gelson Martins

Arsenal manager Unai Emery made it clear that Arsenal would not sign anyone permanently in January.

The Emirates chief eventually signed Denis Suarez on loan, who is yet to find his feet in the Premier League.

However, in recent days Arsenal have been linked to a number of players – and Emery was reportedly in Spain over the weekend personally scouting some summer targets.

But who are those targets and how could Arsenal line-up with them next season?

Find out below…

Gelson Martins (Monaco)

Arsenal are reportedly weighing up a summer move for Gelson Martins.

The 23-year-old forward is currently on loan at Ligue 1 side Monaco from Atletico Madrid.

He has three goals and three assists in his first eight appearances for the club and his performances have caught the eye of Emirates talent-spotters.

Portuguese news outlet A Bola claim Arsenal remain interested in signing him after failing in a loan bid in January.

Martins preferred position is on the right-flank, but his versatility will appeal to Emery as he can also play on the left-wing or behind the striker.

Djene Dakonam (Getafe)

Another player who Emery reportedly has his eye on is Togolese centre-back Djene Dakonam.

Dakonam, 27, has helped LaLiga side Getafe to an impressive season in the Spanish top-flight.

Getafe are fourth in the league and on the weekend Emery was in attendance as he once again contributed to a clean sheet with a hard fought 0-0 draw at Valencia.

It is believed Dakonam has a £31million release clause in his current deal – but the Gunners boss faces competition for the defender as Barca have also reportedly been watching him.

Gabriel Martinelli (Ituano)

Another player Arsenal have been linked with is Brazilian wonderkid Gabriel Martinelli.

The striker, 17, is currently plying his trade in his homeland and he has drawn attention from a whole host of clubs around Brazil for his performances up front for Sao Paulo-based side Ituano.

However, it is believed the Gunners have been following him the closest and will make a move for the starlet in the summer.

Martinelli’s clearly got talent as he has previously had trials with Barcelona and Manchester United – so Emery will have to seal a deal quickly to fend off interest from other clubs.

And at just 17 years old, he is unlikely to be slotted straight into the line-up and may be sent out on loan for more experience.
