Oldham appoint Pete Wild as manager until end of the season following Paul Scholes’ shock departure

Oldham have reappointed former caretaker boss Pete Wild as manager for the rest of the season following Paul Scholes’ surprise departure.

Scholes left the League Two club last week just 31 days into an 18-month contract, saying it “became clear that I would not be able to operate as I intended and was led to believe prior to taking on the role”.

Pete Wild returns as caretaker manager

The former Manchester United midfielder had replaced Wild after the ex-academy coach had overseen four wins – including an FA Cup victory over Premier League Fulham – having replaced previous manager Frankie Bunn on a temporary basis.

Wild has now been brought back to see the club through to the end of the campaign.

“I’m looking forward to working with the players again and hopefully finishing on a positive note,” he said.

Darren Bent is off to either Man City, Arsenal, Chelsea and possibly Man Utd, as soon as Downing and Young go to Liverpool and Man Utd. He does not want to stay with a club who does not have ambition and can't hold onto their best players, so he will leave for 1 of the big four for more money and a chance for a crack at Champ League football.
