Premier League champions City would have faced Watford in the Community Shield if Javi Gracia’s men could have pulled off a shock in the historic cup.
City won the traditional new season curtain raiser last term, beating Chelsea 2-0 thanks to a brace from Sergio Aguero.
And Pep Guardiola’s men will be looking to do so again in next season’s Community Shield.
