The Community Shield sees the winners of the Premier League take on the winners of the FA Cup.
City, having already won the league, won the famous tournament 6-0 against Watford and so an alternative will be needed.
They will now face Champions League winners Liverpool in the Community Shield as they came Premier League runners-up.
That situation last happened in 2010 when Chelsea won the double the season before.
The Blues faced second-place Manchester United at Wembley and lost 3-1.
