Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has stoked the fire ahead of Wednesday’s Manchester derby after claiming Manchester City ‘will kick’ his side during the contest.
The Norweigan suggests his team will have to deal with tactical fouling during the Old Trafford showdown – which is pivotal to both sides for different reasons.
He said: â€Å“When we win it we have got to be ready for their aggression because they will snap at your ankles and heels and kick you.
â€Å“They will not allow us easy counter-attacking. There will be fouls, no doubt about it.â€
The 46-year-old may be regretting making those pre-match comments now though, considering the fact that his side have committed 104 MORE fouls than their city rivals this season.
In fact, City are bottom of the the table for fouls (291), making an average of 8.5 a game.
PREMIER LEAGUE DISCIPLINE - UNITED VS CITY
Manchester United/Manchester City
TOTAL FOULS COMMITTED – 395/291
% FOULS COMMITTED IN OPPOSITION HALF – 49%/58%
YELLOW CARD PREMIER LEAGUE TABLE – 64/38
With that said, Solskjaer could have a point when he says he expects City to stop his side’s counter-attacks by fouling.
Only Liverpool (62%) and Burnley (61%) have conceded a higher percentage of fouls in their opponents’ half than City (58%).
On the other hand, United are joint second bottom of the table with Leicester, with 49% of their fouls occurring in the opposition’s half.
